Flanged Rivnuts are designed for those situations where you wish to fit a nut inside a closed area, and you don’t have accessibility to place the nut on from the back.

These rivnuts have a standard metric thread and are available in a range of sizes, they are made from solid A4-grade stainless steel so suitable for salt-water exposure. 

Rivnuts are installed by using a riv nut application tool, there are manual versions of the rivnut setting tool available which are not too costly, there are also adaptors for electric drill/drivers for installing rivnuts.

Each rivnut, depending on its size, has a recommended installation hole size, and grip range (the thickness of material that it is best suited to).  If you want to install a rivnut into a thickness of material which is greater than the recommended grip range, you might want to locally thin (by counter-boring or similar) to achieve the recommended grip thickness.
